![]() ![]() The constrained supply, coupled with increased demand due to the pandemic, has inadvertently led to shortages of critical medical supplies needed in the battle against COVID-19. Some exporters of medical products, such as face masks and other personal protective equipment, have imposed export bans and other restrictions to ensure domestic supply. You can already see small examples of this being demonstrated in the way some businesses have taken to innovation to compensate for shortages during lockdown conditions. But if implemented effectively, a circular economy, or at least the principles that form its building blocks, contributes not only to environmental concerns but also to mitigating the immediate and long-term detrimental effects of waste on the economy and the well-being of people. Getting there will be a slow and deliberate process. It stands in stark contrast to the more familiar linear economy model, which disposes materials after a single use.Ī transition to this system would be, for many, a departure from long-held norms. Some economies looking to tackle the waste crisis, including this year’s host, have looked into the concept of a circular economy-a system that eliminates waste, keeps materials in use and regenerates natural systems. Infographic: Pivoting to a Circular Economy The policies we set today will determine the extent to which our activities will contaminate the atmosphere, poison our food and water supplies and affect industries such as tourism and fisheries, in the future. #Circular flow of economy PatchAnyone familiar with the Great Pacific Garbage Patch would acknowledge that the current waste issue is a major problem that is worsening by the day. The looming environmental crisis is just as global and even potentially more permanent and damaging than any pandemic. Innovative businesses have since come up with more efficient ways to produce and reuse more personal protective equipment in response to lockdowns and supply shortage. Protective masks are sterilized under ultraviolet light for disinfection and reuse. ![]()

Shortly thereafter, Eastman settled in New York City, where he initially straddled the divide between the conventionally bifurcated "uptown" and downtown music scenes. Additionally, Eastman's friend Kyle Gann has speculated that his inability to acclimate to the more bureaucratic elements of academic life (including paperwork) may have hastened his departure from the university. ![]() Cage was incensed and said during an ensuing lecture that Eastman's ". Although Eastman began to teach theory and composition courses over the course of his tenure, he left Buffalo in 1975 following a controversially ribald performance of John Cage's aleatoric Songbooks by the S.E.M. During this period, fifteen of Eastman's earliest works were performed by the Creative Associates, including Stay On It (1973), an early augury of postminimalism and one of the first art music compositions inspired by progressions from popular music, presaging the later innovations of Arthur Russell and Rhys Chatham. Ensemble.įrom 1971 he performed and toured with the group, and composed numerous works for it. Along with Kotik, Eastman was a founding member of the S.E.M. Eastman and Kotik performed together extensively in the early to mid-1970s. ![]() During this period, he met Petr Kotik, a Czech-born composer, conductor, and flutist. Eastman's talents gained the attention of composer-conductor Lukas Foss, who conducted Davies' music in performance at the Brooklyn Philharmonic.Īt the behest of Foss, Eastman joined the Creative Associates - a "prestigious program in avant-garde classical music" that "carried a stipend but no teaching obligations" -at SUNY Buffalo's Center for the Creative and Performing Arts. Eastman had a rich, deep, and extremely flexible singing voice, for which he became noted for his 1973 Nonesuch recording of Eight Songs for a Mad King by the British composer Peter Maxwell Davies. He made his debut as a pianist in 1966 at The Town Hall in New York City. There he studied piano with Mieczysław Horszowski and composition with Constant Vauclain, and switched majors from piano to composition, graduating in 1963. He studied at Ithaca College before transferring to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. ![]() He began studying piano at age 14 and made rapid progress. Julius Eastman grew up in Ithaca, New York, with his mother, Frances Eastman, and younger brother, Gerry. He often gave his pieces titles with provocative political intent, such as Evil Nigger and Gay Guerrilla, and has been acclaimed following new performances and reissues of his music. He was among the first composers to combine minimalist processes with elements of pop music, and involve experimental methods of extending and modifying music in creating what he called "organic music". Mary Jane Leach is a composer and freelance writer, currently writing music and theatre criticism for the Albany Times-Union.Julius Eastman (Octo– May 28, 1990) was an American composer, pianist, vocalist, and performance artist whose work is associated with musical minimalism. Rene Levine Packer's book This Life of Sounds: Evenings for New Music in Buffalo received an ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for excellence. The book presents an authentic portrait of a notable American artist that is compelling reading for the general reader as well as scholars interested in twentieth-century American music, American studies, gay rights, and civil rights. In addition to analyses of Eastman's music, the essays in Gay Guerrilla provide background on his remarkable life history and the era's social landscape. These episodes are examples of Eastman's persistence in pushing the limits of the acceptable in the highly charged arenas of sexual and civil rights. Eastman tested limits with his political aggressiveness, as reflected in legendary scandals like his June 1975 performance of John Cage's Song Books, which featured homoerotic interjections, and the uproar over his titles at Northwestern University. Eastman's provocative titles, including Gay Guerrilla, Evil Nigger, Crazy Nigger, and others, assault us with his obsessions. His music, insistent and straightforward, resists labels and seethes with a tension that resonates with musicians, scholars, and audiences today. ![]() Composer-performer Julius Eastman (1940-90) was an enigma, both comfortable and uncomfortable in the many worlds he inhabited: black, white, gay, straight, classical music, disco, academia, and downtown New York. ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() Allyn Rachel as Bee, Arin Hanson as Wesley, and Vocaloid OLIVER as Puppycat in Bee and Puppycat: Lazy in Space. I’m unsure if Bee and Puppycat: Lazy in Space, which restarts the entire show, was always meant to do so. I had been under the impression that Bee and Puppycat: Lazy in Space was meant to be Bee and Puppycat Season 2, something that I very quickly realized was not the case. This is troubling when you consider that the first few episodes are meant to bring the new audience up to speed on what this show is all about. This might just be my experience, but I struggled mightily to get invested, to the point where I had to force myself to make it through the first few episodes. To say that Bee and Puppycat: Lazy in Space Season 1 initially disappointed me would be an understatement. Allyn Rachel as Bee and Vocaloid OLIVER as Puppycat in Bee and Puppycat: Lazy in Space. ![]() Spoilers ahead for Bee and Puppycat: Lazy in Space. Allyn Rachel continues to be such a unique performer as Bee that she shines all the way through I am obsessed with Ashly Burch, forever and always and the use of Vocaloid OLIVER for Puppycat is a testament to just how well technology and animation can go hand-in-hand. Its art is a refined version of the original Bee and Puppycat and you can tell that a lot of time, care, and love went into making it this beautiful. The show is stunning, colorful, fun – it has all the makings of something phenomenal. And that’s not because I don’t think the show is any good rather, it relies too heavily on casual viewing and thus its story doesn’t come together as strongly as I’d like.īefore I get lost in the sauce, though, I would like to point out before that the animation art sound design soundtrack and voice acting are all top-notch. Watching the 16-episode season was a feat that took a long time. Having said all that: as much as Bee and Puppycat was a cultural phenomenon and trendsetter, Bee and Puppycat: Lazy in Space falls a bit flat. I’m beyond excited for new audiences to discover the show and fall in love with its characters, and for its success to allow other adult animated shows to find an audience – like Kid Cudi’s animated romance Entergalactic, which also just released on Netflix. And after many, many years, and a lot of controversies, I am very glad that Bee and Puppycat is finally available for everyone to enjoy on one of the largest streaming platforms (if not the largest). It doesn’t exactly evoke “cozy autumn vibes,” but it definitely does come across as a chill-and-unhinged (in a chaotic good way) adventure show that redefines what adult animation can look like. The best way I can describe Bee and Puppycat is that it reminds me of listening to Lofi Girl while wearing a thick sweater and drinking warm soup. Title card from the original Bee and Puppycat. ![]() It was the first show I’d seen that used a cute and cuddly, Studio Ghibli-esque art style but was made for me. There are jokes from the show that I still think about, like the crab who says “Cleavage” throughout “Beach Cats” or the Puppycats’ many, many violence-related threats. It quickly became one of my favorite animated shows, as it isn’t made for young audiences, but, rather, for adults. The first time I came across Bee and Puppycatwas in 2020, when I stumbled upon Season 1 in its entirety on the Cartoon Hangover YouTube channel. ![]() ![]() ![]() I have never user reviews a product that I’ve paid for but this product is AMAZING! 0 18dB 11 16V DC 249 amperes DC 21 x 11.5 x 2.5 13.5V DC & 14.4V DC maximum current consumption reading was extracted at the. Before ordering I find out all the reviews on the product and that is how I made my choice. This product was one of the wonderful item I have ever decided to buy.
